Evolution is an interesting and enigmatic phenomenon. The idea that all mammals, including ourselves, are interconnected somehow is fascinating.
One that can be difficult to fully grasp – where do we find proof of evolution? Evidence of our ancestral heritage, tracing back from early apes to Neanderthals and ultimately to the modern Homo sapiens we have become, is abundant.
Evolution shows how all mammals, including humans, are interconnected, with evidence found even within our own bodies. Traits inherited from our ancestors, many of which no longer serve a purpose, still persist.
For example, goosebumps were once useful for our mammalian ancestors to retain heat by raising body hair, much like how animals fluff up for warmth or to appear larger when threatened. Another evolutionary remnant is the palmaris longus tendon in the forearm, which aided ancient primates in tree movement. About 10-15% of people now lack this tendon, highlighting ongoing human evolution.
